About Us

Woodhouse Grove School dates back to 1812 when it was decided (at the Wesleyan Conference of 1811) to provide education of minister’s sons, in addition to the long-established Kingswood School. As a consequence of that decision, the Woodhouse Grove Estate, at Apperley Bridge was purchased and the School opened on 8th January 1812, with 8 pupils. Within a few weeks the number had increased to 27 and by the end of the year there were 70 pupils enrolled. For over 200 years, Woodhouse Grove School has embraced a strong sense of social responsibility, charity and care and has remained true to the founding Methodist principles upon which the School was created. Today, these values of giving back, community and mutual respect remain strong and fundamental to the School.
